Joy Chen is CEO of the Multicultural Leadership Institute and former Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles.
As Deputy Mayor of a city where 90+ languages are spoken, Joy led economic and workforce development programs which remain models on how to better enable all to prosper.
Joy then worked for 7 years as an executive search consultant for CEOs and Board members of Fortune 500 companies.
She wrote a blog on the unwritten rules of the game, which went viral in China, launching her there as a career guru and best-selling author of Do Not Marry Before Age 30《30岁前别结婚》and How to Get Lucky in Your Career《30岁趁势而为》.
Fluent in Mandarin, Joy founded a Beijing training company which created courses and online media which have enabled millions of Chinese to grow their global leadership skills.
Today, Joy delivers keynotes to help companies grow effective leadership for all people. And she teaches the Asian American Leadership Accelerator, to help Asian Americans build the soft skills they need to lead in Corporate America.
For her global leadership in unleashing human potential, Joy has been profiled by media including The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, CNN, CBS News, ABC News and Vogue China.
Joy holds a Diversity & Inclusion certificate from Cornell University, MBA and M.A. in Urban Planning degrees from UCLA, and a BA from Duke University. She is a 2004 American Marshall Memorial Fellow.
